Today is the eighteenth day of my photography challenge – Adventures in Photography
After heading into Woodbridge first thing this morning to get my Covid jab I drove out to Captains Wood to take todays photos. It was drizzling when I left home and the forecast was not good for the rest of the day so I thought the woods would be the best option. I decided that I would produce two panels of images today each using 9 shots. One would feature winter images and the other would be more spring focused.
Captains Wood is one of my favourite areas of Suffolk woodland. It is a haphazard mix of silver birch, beech, hazel and ancient oak trees and has a couple of small ponds which add a different element to the woodland environment. In the spring the area is renowned for its carpet of bluebells. Today it was peaceful and deserted.
Walking around the wood there was not much evidence of spring. The cold weather seems to have delayed the start of the season. I found a few primroses in flower, and some hazel and pussy willow catkins on the trees and saw a chiffchaff flitting around in the trees. The bluebells were springing up beneath a carpet of bracken and it felt good to anticipate the colour that they would eventually bring to the wood.
I spent some time thinking about the shots I wanted to take and went for a neutral theme for my winter images and a green theme for spring. Despite the rain it was good to get out and I really enjoyed my peaceful wander around Captains Wood.
