Fields of Barley

Fields of Barley, Snape, Suffolk

Suffolk may be a flat landscape but it is a diverse one. Just inland from the coast and lying adjacent to Tunstall forest this field of barley caught my eye initially for its beautiful aquamarine colour. Coming back to photograph it at sunset I loved the way the barley seemed to glow as it was backlit by the sinking sun.

As I set up to capture some images looking across the fields a tiny muntjac caught my eye. He was wandering along the field edge eating the leaves off the low lying branches of the trees I was trying to photograph. Sometimes he would try to pull off an entire branch, tugging with all his might. Despite the damage he was a joy to watch and was completely oblivious to my presence.

It is little incidents like these that make landscape photography so rewarding for me.
