Shoot for Classic Boat magazine
This shoot took place on the River Deben in Suffolk and was commissioned by Classic Boat Magazine who wanted images to accompany an article on a restoration of the Classic Yacht Kestrel.
Kestrel won the Old Gaffers Concours d’Elegance award in 2013 after being bought for a pound and undergoing a complete rebuild by her owner James Palmer on the River Deben in Suffolk.
I had arranged a chase boat for the shoot and was luck with the weather – a fine sunny day with a good breeze. We spent an hour or so on the water trying to get as many different images from as many angles as possible. There are always several things to thing about when out on the water beyond the technical side of photography. Magazines tend to like images showing the decks rather than the hull, and they are not interested in images of baggy sails or trailing ropes. Its also good to work out what the boat is likely to do in the water so that you can get into a good position to capture the images you had in mind.
